Joe Mantegna aka Joseph Anthony “Joe” Mantegna, Jr. is a very well known Italian-American actor, producer, writer and director. He took birth in the family of Mary Ann, a shipping clerk and Joseph Anthony Mantegna, Sr. His father worked in insurance sales and died in 1969 due to tuberculosis.
Joe Mantegna joined Morton East High School. Joe next joined Goodman School of Drama (the Theatre School at DePaul University) and received a degree in acting in 1964. He also had been a member of a band The Apocryphals.
On December 3, 1975, Joe Mantegna married Arlene Vrhel. The couple has two daughters, Mia and Gina and Mantegna also has a child with autism. He owns a Chicago themed restaurant in Burbank, California.
Joe Mantegna made his acting debut in the 1969 stage production of ‘Hair’. He made Broadway debut in 1978 by appearing on ‘Working’. He also worked as a writer with Bleacher Bums, an award winning play. For his performance as Richard Roma in David Mamet’s play Glengarry Glen Ross, Joe won a Tony Award. He made his feature film debut in the 1977 movie ‘Medusa Challenger’. In 1985, Joe Mantegna was seen in ‘Compromising Positions’ portraying the character of a womanizing dentist Bruce Fleckstein. Among his other early performances were ‘The Money Pit’ in 1986; Weeds in 1987 and Suspect in 1987. Joe’s next appearances were on ‘House of Games’ and Things Change. For his performance on Things Change, Joe received the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival along with his co-star Don Ameche. In 1991, Joe Mantegna made his appearance on the police thriller ‘Homicide’. His other memorable appearances are on ‘Airheads’, ‘Baby’s Day Out’, ‘The Godfather Part III’, and the 1998 film ‘The Rat Pack’.


On the hit animation series ‘The Simpsons’, Joe gave his voice to mob boss Anthony ‘Fat Tony’ D’Amico’. Joe also hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ during 1990-1991. On April 26, 2004, Joe Mantegna received Lifetime Achievement Award at the Los Angeles Italian Film Festival. He joined the CBS crime drama ‘Criminal Minds’ on August 11, 2007. In June 2008, he served as the keynote commencement speaker at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
